Most of the planet is currently keeping up with the World Cup. That includes my four year old grandson who drew this soccer player for me for Father’s Day.

It’s an evening game. The colors at the top of the drawing represent another stunning Arizona sunset.
This is just to give you a smidgen of insight into how I work.
I was driving along and an idea for a cartoon came to me. I don’t know why. I wasn’t trying to come up with cartoon ideas. It just came to me. Such works the muse. As soon as I could I had to jot down the idea. I’ve learned the hard way. I’ve forgotten many great ideas before I got a chance to work on them. I’ve also learned that I have to write down both the gag line and the image. Another hard lesson. Later I might look at a note I’ve written or sketch I’ve drawn and ponder, “What the heck is THAT?”
Below is the quick note and the finished product.

Sometimes you can get so wrapped up in what you’re doing that you don’t realize the mistakes you might be making.
