I discovered a box of oil pastels in my art closet. I don’t know how long they’ve been there. I don’t even know where they came from. I decided to give them a try. Since this was my first attempt at using oil pastels I decided to keep it simple.

I finished this earlier in the summer but I had to wait to post it because the person I was doing it for was giving it as a surprise anniversary gift.

Just practicing. I combined elements from a couple of photos. For example, in the original she didn’t have blowing hair.

Sadly, this is what they think the public wants. Even more sad – they’re often right.

These “debates” are best when the TV is set to mute.
This gives you an idea of how I ended up with the drawing, combining elements of several photographs. I allowed myself to make several changes but I wanted to make sure the locale of the drawing was still recognizable.

Below is a photo of me and the drawing at the recreation center. Also shown is a plaque the local Exchange Club gave in my honor back in the 1990′s.
