Heart of Flowers

My youngest granddaughter decided to completely redo her bedroom. That included painting over the murals I painted which were a bunch of frogs doing things all around the world. Actually, she inherited the Frog Mural from her brother when she took over his room (see the link below).

It seemed natural that for her birthday I should paint something else for her. Not a mural this time, but a painting. That way she can put it anywhere in the room she wants. Or not at all if that’s what she wants. I had no idea what to paint and somehow ended up with a bunch of flowers in the shape of a heart. That way, whenever she looks at the painting she’ll be reminded that I love her.

Poppy Field at Sunset

It is what it is: a painting I really didn’t want to do in the first place and didn’t want to continue once it was started. But I was determined to struggle through. I finally reached a point where I thought, “I’m done.”

He Is Risen

This drawing commemorating Easter was first posted in April 2009. I have been honored by several churches who have asked permission to use this drawing for their services. One church even used the drawing to make a very beautiful banner.

Lips of Rose

Just for the fun of it.
This is another one of my “nudes.” The model doesn’t have a stitch of clothes on but I concentrated on the flower she was holding. Actually, that’s not the flower she was holding. I changed it to a red rose.

Inspired by my Pastor’s sermon. At least it proves I was listening.

Keyhole Flower Purple

Some time ago I posted a small drawing I had done of a flower with the mat board cut in a simple keyhole shape ( I recently found this drawing I had done about the same time.

Three Boutonnieres

Addendum to the last post: three versions of the same boutonniere. The top is a photograph of the real boutonniere. It is sitting in an unseen vase on a black granite countertop but all you can see is the flower.

In the middle is a color pencil drawing done on black mat board. Although yellows, oranges and reds were used, the black surface changed the appearance of the colors.

On the bottom is a Photoshop® rendering using the “glowing edges” filter.

For Janey Fields
After returning home from my long-time friend’s memorial service I unpinned the boutonniere from my jacket and set it on the counter. I decided to set it in a small vase and enjoy it for as long as it would last. Looking at it I really appreciated the beauty of the flower and decided to draw it.

I used color pencil and put it on black mat board to make it stand out. It was surprising and interesting to see how the black surface changed the colors of the pencils which were mostly oranges, yellows and reds.
