English actress, Madeleine Carroll, born Marie-Madeleine Bernadette O’Carroll (1906 – 1987). The world’s highest paid actress in 1938, she was awarded both the Legion d’Honneur and the Medal of Freedom for her work with the Red Cross helping wounded servicemen and children displaced or maimed during World War II.
