Las Posadas

I was asked to do an illustration for an Advent concert. I tried to avoid the typical nativity scenes, and shepherds, and wise men and so on. (People tend to get confused about Advent and Epiphany and just lump them all together into “Christmas.”) I wanted to depict Mary during her pregnancy and the ordeal of their search for lodging. In some cultures this is observed as, “Las Posadas.”

Instead of the usual illustration I took a mosaic or stained glass approach.

  2. I love the mosaic illustration and the fidelity to the story of Advent. It did not all happen at once with everyone in the same room at the same time. Christmas starts on Christmas day and I always feel sad when I hear people say all their celebratory stuff is neatly stowed on the 26th. Every part of the story is a cause for celebration. How fortunate that you can illustrate it so well.
